DINISE SCHOOL'S PART OF THE ROOF FLEW OFF

According to local sources, especially the director of Dinise School, Mr. Wally Ductan, a mild tropical storm hit the Dinise School building located in the Jean Rabel area, in the Nord Ouest department. This event occurred in the afternoon of March 22, 2023, at around 3:30 pm. The strong winds caused the rupture and removal of a part of the school's lower roof, which flew off into the school’s neighborhood. Fortunately, this event happened at a time when there were no children on the school grounds.

According to eyewitnesses, the storm lasted for about 40 minutes, and the wind blew at a high speed, causing minor damage to other buildings in the vicinity. School leaders confirmed that no one was injured and that all school staff and children were safe.

However, the incident has caused concerns among parents of Dinise School students, who have called on school leaders to take measures to strengthen the security of school buildings in the area, especially with the approaching rainy and cyclonic season, which generally starts in June.

The pastor of the local church, Rev. Ilioner Dorcius, and the school director, Wally Ductant, visited the school to assess the damages caused by the storm, took photos, and promised to take measures to ensure a minimum of safety for the students and teaching staff of the establishment. They also called for increased awareness of the risks of natural disasters in the region and recommended that local communities, especially parents of students, use the means available to prepare in advance to cope with such events.

In conclusion, this incident highlights the importance of disaster preparedness and the safety of school buildings in high-risk areas, especially in regions affected by hurricanes and other extreme weather phenomena in the country. It is crucial that local authorities take measures to ensure the safety of children and staff in schools, in order to minimize the risks of injury and death in the event of a natural disaster.
